THE site of the former Whitecross High School in Hereford is set to remain empty after developers changed their mind about building 65 homes there.

The old school was demolished when pupils moved to a new site off Three Elms Road in 2006.

And very little has been done since the buildings were brought down on land off Baggallay Street.

However, this was all set to change after Herefordshire Council granted permission for Miller Homes to start developing there.

The proposal included 134 car park spaces, with access to the site coming solely off Baggallay Street.

Planning approval was granted last October, which followed an earlier public consultation event at Holy Trinity Church.

But, Miller Homes told the Hereford Times this week that it was no longer proceeding with the planned development due to "strategic business reasons."
