THE parents of Bill Symonds have thanked everyone who has supported them during their boy's battle with a brain tumour.

Many people in the county were touched by their story after the parents revealed that their little boy was to undergo brain surgery at Birmingham Children's Hospital.

Many fundraising events - from a charity car wash to a live band night - have already taken place to raise money for the family and the Ronald McDonald House.

The latter is a charity that provides rooms free of charge to parents whose children are undergoing hospital treatment.

"It has reaffirmed by faith in humankind - I cannot thank people enough," said Lee.

"When we got back home, my friends and family put in a new kitchen, painted my room and sorted out my garden - Kate was crying, she was so happy.

"But it wasn't just people who I know that helped - even people I had never met were doing stuff.

"When we first went to the hospital, we weren't expected to be there for long, so it was a shock when we were told that we were going to be there for a month.

"It just snowballed from there and it was fantastic what people did for us."

A car wash held at Saxon Hall in Hoarwithy Road, Hereford, on Saturday raised around £1,000, while a motown and soul night will take place at Fusion nightclub tomorrow (Friday) night to raise further funds.

Other events in the pipeline include a psychic supper at MFA Bowl in Hereford and a club night at the Jailhouse on June 13.

The Hereford Vintage and Retro Fayre will also host a fundraising event on May 3.

Lee co-runs the Jailhouse and Kate is a hotel manager.

Lee said that both are hoping to return to their jobs soon once Bill is back on his feet.

"It is going to take a few months for him to get back to the level of a normal child because he should have been walking six months ago," said Lee.

"But he is standing and the physiotherapist has had a few sessions with him.

"Since the operation, he is more mobile than he has ever been in his life."
