A DECISION on who will lose their jobs at Balfour Beatty in Herefordshire is due to be announced next week.

The Hereford Times reported last month that up to 30 workers could be made redundant as part of a restructuring process taking place within the company.

The redundancies will be in the street cleansing and ground maintenance teams as Herefordshire Council's contractor look to manage a new budget.

Steve Akers, regional organiser for UNISON, confirmed that further talks took place between the union and the company on Friday and a final decision on who will be made redundant is expected to be made on Tuesday.

He added that he hopes workers can be re-deployed from grounds maintenance and street cleansing into highways maintenance and gully cleaning roles, especially those who hold HGV licences.

Rachel Davies, spokesman at Balfour Beatty, said that the company has been working with the unions throughout the process and will everything it can to redeploy and support staff.
