RAMBLE AND BARBECUE - The first of this year’s rambles and barbecues will start at Inkerman, home of Stephen and Carol Williams, April 19 at 3pm. Come along for a Spring walk around the footpaths of Allensmore and then celebrate Easter with a barbecue of local produce. This will be the first opportunity to test the 2013 Allensmore cider. Will 2013 be a vintage year? Everyone will be made welcome to attend the walk, the refreshments or both.

QUIZ NIGHT - The April quiz night takes place tomorrow (Friday). Start time 8pm prompt and a charge of £5 per team of up to four members will be made.

CHURCH - On Palm Sunday the benefice service will take place at Aymestrey at 11am. On Good Friday there will be a benefice service entitled Walking with the Cross at Leinthall Earls at 10.30am.
Bishops Frome and Fromes Hill
A NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN - Following the successful completion and publication of the Bishops Frome and Fromes Hill parish plan, the next project is to produce a neighbourhood plan which will establish general planning policies for the development and use of land in Bishops Frome and Fromes Hill.
Once the plan is in place the planners will have to take account of it with every planning application that they deal with and residents will have more say in just where they do or do not want further development to take place.
If you are interested in the location of future housing in the parish, and particularly if you would like to take part in the preparation of a neighbourhood plan, you are invited to a meeting in the Village Centre at 7.30pm on Tuesday to discuss where to go from here.

LEISURE CLUB - Club members will have their first trip of the year. A coach will leave the parish hall at 11am and take them to the Jinny Ring Craft Centre at Hanbury in Worcestershire. The centre includes the Wagon House Gardens, a sculpture trail, gift shop, gallery, plants, craft studios and the all-important restaurant and tea room. The coach will leave the centre at 4.30pm.

FLICKS IN THE STICKS - The next film in the current flicks in the sticks season will be shown tomorrow (Friday) and will feature Captain Phillips (12A), released 2013, running time 128minutes. Refreshments are available during the interval.

PARISH COUNCIL - The March meeting was held in St Michael’s hall with Cllr J Webb in the chair, also present were Hereford Cllr Graham Powell, lengthsman Mr T Griffiths, the clerk and four members of the public.
An application for co-option was received from Mr Patrick Tandy, this was accepted and Mr Tandy was duly co-opted as a parish councillor.
In the open forum a report was received from ward Cllr Graham Powell.
The clerk would provide an update on work carried out in Priorsfield and where the pot- holes had not been filled in.
Regarding the lengthsman’s contract for 2014/15 it was agreed to renew Terry Griffiths’ contract and that Cllr R Weaver would act as the local contact with the lengthsman. It was also agreed that following the end of her probationary period the clerk would continue in her post as was agreed in her contract.

ANNUAL PARISH MEETING - What has the council been doing with your money? Last year’s community plan called for improvements to youth facilities and to the pavilion and hall, and a range of environmental schemes.

VILLAGE PLANS - On April 24 and 26 there will be open sessions at the village hall to discuss your ideas about future developments in the village. There will be very large maps and people to talk to, who would be glad to hear what you think the village needs, and where.
In the near future the government insists we must accept some new housing, and all village residents are invited to have their say about where developments would be best, or where they would not.
Your ideas for flood prevention would also be welcome.
The open sessions on April 24 will be from 8am until noon and 5pm until 8pm. The sessions on April 26 will be from 10am until 3pm.
PLANT SALE - The popular plant sale is on May 10, 2pm at the village hall. FUNDRAISING - At a recent coffee morning held by St Mary’s Church, Humber in aid of St Michael’s Hospice the sum of £365.45 was raised thanks to the hard work of the congregation and the generosity of those who came along to support the event.

FARM AFRICA - The Tower House Gallery in Knighton has sent £180 to the charity Farm Africa.
The money was donated by customers and will be used to buy six goats. In Africa’s rural areas, many poor families rely on their land to survive.
Through a FARM-Africa goat project, Farm Africa can transform life for a poor community. It provides poor families with goats and training in how to care for them.
It also gives one member of the group Toggenburgs to breed with local goats, so the hardier offspring produce lots of nutritious milk.
This can be drunk or sold to help pay for medicine and schoolbooks. Plus, the goats’ manure is a great fertiliser for the family’s crops.
Julia Llewellyn-Roberts who runs the gallery with her husband John had a letter from Farm Africa to thank them and their customers for the generous donation.

BEER TASTING - To celebrate Herefordshire’s local beer heritage, Ledbury Food Group is running a beer tasting event at which you can compare and contrast different styles of beer, both local and international. APRIL WI - President Barbara Gayther welcomed members to the April meeting of Llanbister WI. There were apologies from Val and Carol. Olwen read the minutes from the March meeting.
It was decided that the WI would enter a quiz team in the county‘s annual quiz. From the letters the county show was discussed and all competition entries were organised, diaries were ordered and new age kurling, taster evenings for this sport, are going to be held at three venues in June.
The baton centenary; there will be events in August for the handing over of the baton to Brecknock WI members. Olwen attended the Welsh conference held in Wrexham, when an interesting variety of speaker was enjoyed.
On display during the evening was a beautiful selection of knitted sheep all made by WI member Wendy. The speaker was unable to attend. Jo Herford won the lucky draw. Competition winners for the best green necklace were 1st Irene Goodman, 2nd Anita Threadgold, 3rd Val Thomas. Hostesses were Anita and Marion. The next meeting will be on May 6. The speaker will be Peter Davies on the subject of ’glass engraving’.

SCHOOL REUNION - A reunion of past Mordiford School pupils has been arranged for May 17.

EASTER ACTIVITIES - East Radnor leisure centre are having two activity days over the Easter holidays on Thursday, April 17 and April 24 from 9 to 4pm each day.
The day will consist of fun and exciting activities that can be found on the 5 x 60 Programme.
Activities will include swimming, basketball, tennis, netball, indoor hockey, rugby and football, badminton, dodgeball plus lots more.
The cost of each day will be £12 for each child. All children can attend from years three to nine but a child must be at least eight on the day. Places are limited so booking early is advised by calling the leisure centre on 260302.

ART EXHIBITION – There will be an Easter art exhibition at Stoke Lacy village hall from 10am to 6pm from April 19-April 21. The event is supported by Wye Valley Brewery and will be opened by Charles Morgan of Morgan Cars at noon on April 19. A high quality exhibition of paintings by nine artists who are either resident in Stoke Lacy or are connected in some way. Artists on display will include Antony Bridge, Brian Gorst, Kate Harvey, Tony James, David McKeeman, Nigel Montandon, Colin Simmonds, David Spurrier and Kim Williams.

MEMBERS enjoyed an afternoon listening to the poems and interviews of Pam Ayres.
Exercises to music with Linda has taken place and hopefully some inches have disappeared after all the goodies at Christmas, but of course Easter eggs are not far away.
Shrove Tuesday was celebrated when pancakes with delicious fillings were served by the staff of the Conservative Club.
Aileen Dixon gave a wonderful demonstration on cheese, with many varieties for all to taste.All samples were passed around on suitable biscuits with grapes.
The favourite appeared to be Gorwydd made by a young man named Todd Tretchowan whose grandmother, living in the area, used to make cheese herself. His parents retired to Gorwydd Farm, Llandewi Brefi which is where the cheese is made.
After all of the tasting, Margaret celebrated her birthday with chocolate cake and trifle followed by wine and sherry.

PAULA Brooks judged the match on the March 19 and selected Caroline Scott’s lhasa apso – Shardlow Party Tricks for best puppy and Pam Wooden’s golden retriever – Goldenwood Kingstone was reserve best puppy.
Best veteran was Brenda Piears Cardigan corgi – Tyci Myfanwy.
Best adult and best in match was Karen Lewis and Adrian Bunton’s cairn terrier – Pendley It’s My Party, and John and Eileen Clare’s wire haired dachshund – Bellavins Illustrious was reserve best adult in Match.
At Crufts, Stephanie Presdee’s pekingese – jadapes Mickey Finn was first in the good citizen class and Jackey Williams’ English setter – Bournehouse Starry Night was third in special puppy bitch out of a class of 20 – and won her first junior class at Mid Western Gundog Show.
The next match will be held on Wednesday. Ringcraft is held every Wednesday 7.45-9pm at Stretton Sugwas village hall.

Hereford and Mid Wales Philatelic Society
THERE was a good attendance for the society’s meeting on April 2, with 27 members and guests attending.
The main event of the evening was a display by visiting speaker Richard Farman.
The display was on the subject of early military mail, and included militia letters, foreign military letters and Napoleonic POW letters.The society meets at St Martin’s parish centre, Ross Road, Hereford at 7.30pm on the first Wednesday of each month.
