A LEOMINSTER woman has braved the hair clippers to raise hundreds of pounds for charity.

Kayleigh Balcombe, 23, shaved her head to support the Ronald McDonald House in Manchester.

The house offered Kayleigh and her partner Wesley a place to stay while their son, Coby-Lee, underwent surgeries on his heart at a nearby hospital.

Kayleigh has so far raised £870 for the charity, which relies on donations, and said she is hoping to hit £1,000 in the next two weeks.

She said: "When I was having my head shaved I felt really emotional. Before I did it I was quite worried because I knew people would stare at me and I thought I might look strange.

"But when I saw myself afterwards I actually thought it looked really nice. Jenna Powney, from Love Your Locks hairdressers, was really helpful and supportive, and reassured me that it looked good.

"It's worth it for the charity. People don't know how much places like this are needed until they need them themselves. Every donation really helps - people can sometimes feel embarrassed to give a small donation, but every donation is big to me."

Following the birth of Coby-Lee, who has had surgery on four heart defects, the family were regular visitors to the Ronald McDonald House.
