ALL eyes will be on a Leominster optician when his band performs in front of royalty later this month.

Peter Meredith is jetting off to Monaco to play at a post-charity event party – hosted by Prince Albert – for The Princess Charlene Foundation bike race.

His band will be entertaining the crowds at the party following the race – which runs from St Tropez to Monaco – with their covers.

"We are all friends and grew up together in Lytham St Anne’s," Peter explained.

"We started out as school leavers in 1978 and there was a gap of about 30 years when we didn’t really play as we all moved to different parts of the county. But we started up again last December and got together to play with the Hollies lead singer."

Peter said the band's front man had performed at the same party last year but this year, organisers had requested extras.

He added: "I’m really excited. It’s like a dream gig. I’m quite happy that we will make the right sort of noise. There will be a lot of formula one people there – it’ll be fairly high profile."

But Peter says the band won't be rehearsing until the event itself.

"We live all over the UK so we tend to just have a session before we play. We've all played in different bands previously though."

Peter moved to Leominster from Worcester several years ago, setting up his own opticians company.

The Princess Charlene Foundation is dedicated to providing opportunities and support for young athletes.
