PUPILS at a Ross-on-Wye secondary school were left with "cuts and bruises" after the bus they were travelling home on was in collision with a tractor yesterday.

A number of pupils from John Kyrle High School were left with minor injuries following the crash on Laskett Lane in Much Birch.

Police were called at around 4.30pm but all pupils had returned home when officers arrived at the scene at around 4.45pm.

Dave Boyd, deputy head teacher at John Kyrle High School, confirmed the school was aware of the incident.

He said he had travelled to the scene in a school minbus with the head teacher following the collision to ensure pupils were well.

"There were some cuts and bruises so there are some minor injuries but we made sure all were safe and sound," he said.

Some parents had already arrived to collect their children but others were returned home shortly after in the second minibus.

It is not known exactly how many children were injured but Mr Boyd said the bus was “not large”.

He added that the school is now working with Herefordshire Council – the bus contractors – and police to establish what happened.

The tractor driver sustained a knee injury and the bus was recovered later that evening following a temporary closure of the road.
