THE county is set to get behind a week of awareness-raising for Parkinson’s Disease.

Events are taking place throughout the county next week, starting with an information and sales stall at Ross-on-Wye’s Market Place tomorrow from 9am until 1pm.

There will also be an information and cake stall outside the Co-operative Food store in Leominster next Friday from 9am to 2pm and information will be available throughout the week at Hereford County Hospital and at Sainsbury’s supermarket later in the month.

On Friday April 11, coinciding with World Parkinson’s Disease Day, both the Hereford and Ross Friendship Groups will meet at the Conservative Club in Ross-on-Wye at 11am to celebrate the birthday of Dr. James Parkinson.

He wrote an essay on ‘The Shaking Palsy’ and the condition was eventually named Parkinson’s Disease. There will also be a talk on Peru by Ian Binns.

Although most people develop Parkinson’s when they are aged over 50, younger people can also develop the condition.
