A TEENAGER was rescued from the River Wye in Hereford last week.

Sara Middleton was walking along a footpath near Asda at around 5.15pm last Wednesday when she slipped and fell into the water.

Two men managed to get her back onto the bank before paramedics treated the 15-year-old.

She was then taken to Hereford County Hospital, but was allowed to return home later in the evening.

Sara's mother Anna-Jannette Dyche Doyle said that she wanted to thank everyone who helped rescue her daughter.

"She was walking along the edge of the path when she lost her footing and tumbled down the bank," said Anna-Jannette.

"Two men stopped to help her by throwing a life buoy to her.

"There were two other women on the other side of the river who also stopped."

Jayne Griffiths, who witnessed the rescue, said that she kept Sara warm after she was brought out of the river.

"I was just chatting to her and trying to keep her spirits up," said Jane.

Anna-Jannette said that Sara returned to Aylestone School on Monday and she is recovering following the ordeal.

She added that she hopes that some measures could be put in place to try and prevent other people falling into the river.

"She was very lucky and had the strength to pull herself back to the bank, but what would happened if it was an elderly or disabled person?" asked Anna-Jannette.
