FORTY five John Kyrle students received their Duke of Edinburgh Award certificates last week. It marks the culmination of their time, effort and, sometimes, tears.
They all completed the four sections needed for an award – volunteering, physical, skill and expedition. You may see some of this year's participants in local charity shops or youth groups. Each year, some 70 to 80 students start working towards a bronze, silver or the coveted gold award.
The school recognises the value of the award as part of its extra-curricular activities and has invested in the future of the scheme by becoming a directly licensed centre.
If you run a club or charity that might interest young people and fit with one of the award sections, or you are interested in helping out with the expedition section, then contact Hayley Knapper at the school, 01989 764358.
