RINGCRAFT CLUB – Hereford Ringcraft Club is very proud of the fact that Gill Bray’s shetland sheepdog puppy Lianbray Locked in Love got first in special puppy bitch and then went on to win best puppy in breed at Crufts.
Gill also did very well with Ruscombe Strike a Light, getting a first in the limit class.
Hilary Bubb also did the club proud with Bertie her dachshund, kennel name ‘Leapoffaith to Wyeknot’ gaining first place in yearling.
David and Carol Coode had a great day at Crufts with Gunna ‘Ch. Warringah’s Gundaroo’ JW winning special working dog and Merri Warringah’s Merriwagga getting first place in the picking- up class. At the club match David and Carol Coode’s labrador Warringah’s Perth’got best puppy in Match and Wolferflow Anthea dachshund did well for Carolyne Scott, getting best adult in match.
Congratulations were sent to all the winners from the committee and members at the ringcraft club, which meets every Tuesday evening, 7.30pm for 8pm start at Bosbury parish hall.

LOCAL HISTORY EVENING – The speaker on Thursday, March 27, will be local historian and author Ruth Richardson, who will be telling members about the life and career of Blanche Parry.
Born at Newcourt in the Golden Valley, Blanche became chief gentlewoman and confidante to Elizabeth I. She spent most of her life at court and befriended many of the chief figures on the national scene. The talk begins at 7.30pm at the New Bridge community centre, admission £2 to include coffee and biscuits. Everyone welcome.
BRITISH HEART FOUNDATION LENT LUNCH – A Lent lunch will be held at Saltmarshe and district hall on Wednesday between noon and 2pm to raise money for British Heart Foundation.

SCHOOL MUSICIANS –The talented musicians of Queen Elizabeth Humanities College, in Bromyard, have a busy few months ahead. On May 4 the steel band will be performing at Lower Hope for Clive Richards’ open garden event, something which the group is asked to do on a regular basis. On May 10 all the musicians will be joining local primary schools, the Bromyard Wind Band and Bromyard Choral Society for another Last Night of the Proms event in St Peter’s Church.
On June 30 past and present musicians are taking part in the summer concert in the school hall at 7pm. This will be the final concert at QE organised by David Kemp, who is retiring at the end of the academic year.
Mr Kemp received his MBE from the Queen recently.
On July 4 the steel band has been invited to RAF Brize Norton to perform at the summer ball. The band returns late on Friday night, only to be ready the following day to be the lead float in the new Bromyard gala procession.

OVER three years residents have been planting trees in the community orchard, including 25 damson trees in the new roadside hedge, 20 mirabelles in the new field hedge and 241 trees in the orchard.
The apples and pears are mostly local varieties already found in Colwall, including our very own Colwall varieties, Captain Tom and Colwall Quoining apples and Stinking Bishop pears.
To celebrate the final planting there has been organised another round of tree dedications.
You can dedicate a tree for £60 and choose whichever type or variety of tree you like.

PRIMARY SCHOOL – Earlier this month WildPlay came to the recreation ground on a Saturday and the children involved enjoyed the activities provided by Herefordshire Nature Trust. This was the start of a new community wildlife project, so watch this space for future dates.

Thank you to the children for making the effort to dress up – all looked fantastic. Next dressing up day is on March 21 for Sports Relief.
Pupils will be asked to dress up in sports wear and donate £1 to be involved in a fun-filled activity afternoon.

An evening of creative magic, Field Notes is a unique collaboration of music and art featuring renowned composer Howard Skempton, textile artist Matthew Harris and the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group.
Using old county maps and graphic scores as common starting- points, Howard Skempton and Matthew Harris have each created a new work for this performance.
Harris’ free-standing textile artwork will transform the space into both a gallery and a concert hall as four of BCMG’s world- class musicians perform Skempton’s new piece.
The evening includes a behind- the-scenes film, including interviews with both Skempton and Harris, and conversation between audience and artists – all in an informal and relaxed atmosphere.
There will be a licensed bar and light refreshments on offer from 7pm.

AGM – Knighton and District Tourism Group held its AGM at the Tower House Gallery on March 6.
A packed room heard chairman John Rickerby report on the year’s activities, specifically the two new information boards at Brookside Square and Milebrook.
Jay Tate regretfully resigned as vice-chairman and two new members were welcomed.
Renewal of the group’s strategy will be undertaken in 2014 and walking weekends are being planned for May 30, June 1 and 13, and September 14.

FIELD NOTES – Local art lovers are in for a rare double treat according to rural events producers Arts Alive. In a world first, two internationally-renowned artists, a composer and a visual artist, have specially created a one-off musical tapestry for communities in Herefordshire and Shropshire in what is described as an evening of ‘pure creative magic’.

PARISH COUNCIL – At the last meeting on March 4, the effects of the severe weather were discussed, with the flooding on Brampton Road causing major ongoing disruption.
The parish council is in contact with both Balfour Beatty and the Duchy of Cornwall over this issue to carry out works to alleviate the problem in future.
The recent competition held to design the recreation field resulted in more than 40 entries of a very high standard and which had clearly had a lot of time and effort put into them.
The parish council had difficulty in choosing winners and it was decided to award 11 prizes of a £5 book token.
The winners were: Lily Batstone (age nine), Kiefer Byrne (eight), Isabelle Cooke (four), Barnaby Williams (eight), Lucy White (11), Jessie-Mai Shutts (five), Laura Sierakowski (11), Stephanie Wall (nine), Oliver Davis (five), Rachael Dennison (12) and Becky Dennison (14). The parish council would like to thank all of the children who entered, the most popular ideas within the entries will be incorporated into plans for the recreation field and the parish council will be seeking grants to carry out the improvements.
The next meeting is on April 1, at 7.15pm in the parish hall. All welcome.

GOLF SOCIETY - Presteigne Golf Society is celebrating its 25th year this year.
It will start the new season on Saturday teeing off at Ludlow Golf Club.
During the past 25 years the society have played many local courses as well as a few further afield.
This season there will be nine fixtures in total with new and old members welcome to join and look forward to the prospect of great sport and friendship over 18 holes.
The society has raised and donated money to local charities and this season will be no different.

PUDDINGS AND PROMISES - Radnor Valley YFC recently held a puddings and promise auction evening in aid of the club’s 70th anniversary year. The event held at Evenjobb Hall was well attended and managed to raise £5,500 to go towards the club’s 70th anniversary celebratory dinner and club funds.
A variety of promises were up for auction from babysitting to cake decorating, sheep shearing and bale wrapping which were kindly donated by past and present members of the club, auctioneer and past member Haydn Powell encouraged bidders to dig deep in order to support the 70th anniversary year.
A wide range of puddings were generously supplied by current members and club leaders which were well received. The organising committee thanked those who attended and generously bid for the promises.
The club will hold their 70th anniversary dinner at Upper Womaston Farm, Walton on July 5, more information can be gained from club chairman Charlie Morris on 07758 588969.

Knighton and District Rotary Club
LAST month was another enjoyable one with regular meetings and a couple of fundraisers.
It started off with the first meeting of the month at the Baron in Bucknell when magistrate Carolyn Reader recounted her experiences on the bench.
In the middle of the month Rotarians Martin Holberrow and Margaret Leach held a frugal lunch at their home in Knighton to raise £190 for Rotary’s polio eradication programme.
Rotary clubs across the world have played a large part in reducing the incidence of polio worldwide by 99 per cent, hand in hand with organisations such as the WHO and the Bill Gates Foundation.
And at the end of the month Rotarians raised £110 for local charities with a supper and quiz evening at the Baron.
It was a rewarding month and, as always, thanks were given to those who made it possible to donate money to organisations and charities.

TWENTY three members attended an enjoyable meeting on March 5. The main event of the evening was displays by the members.
Twelve gave 13 displays on a wide variety of subjects.
The next meeting of the society will be on April 2, 7.30pm at St Martin’s Parish Centre, Ross Road, when guest speaker Mr Richard Farman from Burton on Trent will give a display on Napoleonic prisoners of war. Kington U3A
THE next social meeting for Kington U3A will be on April 10, at 2pm at the usual venue of Kington football club. The title for this meeting is Photographs of Japan and South Korea by Don Syme. An engaging speaker well known to all and guaranteeing an interesting afternoon. All are welcome to listen to the speakers and to come and discover new interest groups.
