A LATE-NIGHT drunk driver who hit three cars while driving the wrong way down a one-way street in Hereford’s city centre was sentenced to 12 months in prison today (March 14).

Krzysztof Korasiak, 28, of Eign Road, Hereford, also struck a female pedestrian – however fortunately none of the five people injured sustained anything more than minor injuries.

“It was only by good fortune no one was seriously hurt or killed,” said Sergeant Darren Godsall of the Hereford Operational Patrol Unit.

On a busy Saturday night in November, Korasiak got into a VW Golf and drove it the wrong way down West Street, crashing into three vehicles.

When police breathalysed him, he blew more than one and a half times the legal limit.

“There were lots of pedestrians and taxis in the area,” said Sgt Godsall .

“His behaviour is a good example of just how risky and dangerous it is to drive while under the influence of alcohol.”

Having pleaded guilty on January 25, Korasiak was handed out a 12-month prison sentence at Hereford Crown Court today.

He was sentenced 12 months for dangerous driving and four months for driving with an alcohol limit above the limit, to be served concurrently.

The sentence, insisted Sgt Godsall, demonstrates the “robust” manner in which both West Mercia Police and the courts will continue to deal with drink driving.
