MAN'S best friend has helped raise thousands of pounds for St Michael's Hospice.

Hereford's largest sponsored dog walk saw fund-raisers walk 5km from Wyevale Garden Centre through the Herefordshire countryside as part of the Wags and Wellies event, held earlier this month.

With money still to come in, £2,000 has so far been raised for the hospice.

Kerri Williams, from Kinnersley, said it was 'a brilliant day out'.

"What makes the day even more special is that I have a family member receiving treatment at St Michael’s at the moment and this is a perfect way to give something back and say thank you for the wonderful care,” she said.

Post-walk entertainment was provided by the Paws for Thought Dog Display Team and there was also a chance for owners to display their own dog’s talents in various competitions.

Matt Ashcroft, events manager at the hospice, said: “We would like to thank Wyevale Garden Centre, all the stall holders and especially the volunteers who helped make this event such a great success. It’s really been a wonderful family day out.”

Two more events will take place in Leominster on March 22 and Ledbury on April 5.
