MISSING cat's eyes are the latest problem for the county's drivers.

Motorists have already complained about poholes while one lorry became stuck in a sinkhole in Kings Caple last week.

And now one road safety expert claims the devices that improve motorists' night vision have become damaged on a number of the county's highways.

Richard Baker, who provides vehicle fire and collision courses across the world, has already spotted damaged cat's eye on the A465 near Pontrilas, and missing devices on the A40 in Weston under Penyard.

He said that something urgently needs to be done to prevent serious accidents taking place.

"The roads are looking very tatty and it seems that something is done when someone brings it up or reports it," said Richard.

"The approach seems to be reactive rather than proactive.

"The whole stretch of road in Weston under Penyard is breaking up in the centre and the cat's eyes are badly damaged.

"It's in a poor state of disrepair."

Balfour Beatty spokesman Tom Harvey said that the cat's eyes are earmarked to be replaced.

Meanwhile, engineers were yesterday (Wednesday) due to further investigate the work needed to repair the sinkhole in Kings Caple.

Herefordshire Council press officer Kerry Thomson confirmed that the lorry has been removed.

"At present we are unclear as to the cause, but a team was booked to carry out further investigative work, following which we will be in a better position to determine the best course of action for a speedy repair," she added.
