A MAN is doing his bit by keeping the high street alive in Ross-on-Wye by opening a new independent toy shop.

Giles Mason has set up Toy Box in Broad Street which replaces the former Ideal Carpets store.

"It has created a bit of interest locally and we are holding our own so far," said Giles.

"I thought a toy shop would be a good thing to do and I want to prove to myself that I can make it work.

"Can you imagine a town with no shops?

"The high street is changing and has changed, but you've got to embrace those changes."

Toy Box, which stocks products for new-born babies up to 12-year-old children, was officially opened by Herefordshire MP Jesse Norman earlier this month.
