IDEAS to extend Ledbury's charter market have been discussed in some depth by the town council and Herefordshire Council.

Town Coun Martin Eager, chairman of the environment and leisure committee, met recently with the authority's market services officers to talk through the proposals.

The council officers, while not ruling out an extension of the market along the High Street, said the authority's parking enforcement team might be more opposed.

They also said that barriers would need to be placed along the edge of the road, to prevent pedestrians from crossing in-between stalls and to encourage them to use the pedestrian crossing instead.

The town council has also been in touch with the parking enforcement team, and it has been informed that the extension would be supported if the entire area allowed for the market was fully used.

A traffic regulation order would need to reflect the times the market was open, on Tuesday and Saturdays.
