CARE and support for elderly residents at a Leominster sheltered accommodation is soon to be managed by a Newport-based company.

The Hereford Times reported last year that Herefordshire Council's cabinet had backed big changes to adult care services in the county.

Some 500 service users, their families and carers were consulted regarding the changes and Herefordshire Council made the decision to outsource care and support for Norfolk House.

That contract has been awarded to Reach (Supported Living) which specialises in supporting people living in their own homes to "live the life they want".

Helen Coombes, director for adult wellbeing at Herefordshire Council, said: “The new contract with Reach (Supported Living) begins on April 1 2014. The service went out to tender, then a panel of professionals went through a rigorous process of elimination to make sure the new provider could meet both quality and best value targets.

"Herefordshire Council is pleased to be working with Reach and feels confident the organisation, which has an excellent track record, will continue to deliver quality services, and develop new services at Norfolk House.

"Reach has already met with staff and residents at Norfolk House and all are looking forward to a productive relationship.”

Existing workers and those considering a career in adult social care are also invited to find out more at a “career development day” in Hereford next Thursday.

Organised by local organisations, including Herefordshire Council, the event consists of information stands hosted by people who work with adults, plus information about training opportunities available locally.

There will be two 30-minute interactive workshops on dignity and working in adult social care at 12noon and 1.30pm respectively.

Bookings are not necessary and anyone interested can turn up or contact Amy Whiles on 01432 261920 for more information.
