THERE was more good news for developers this week as plans for 46 new houses in the county were approved.

The biggest pitch was made by Les Chambers to have 15 homes sited on land adjacent to Willowcroft in Sutton St Nicholas.

The scheme attracted six letters of support from villagers who said that it offered a range of diverse properties and addresses the needs of small families.

However, five letters of objection were also received by Herefordshire Council from residents who who concerned that the proposed development is too large.

Other issues raised included the way in which the character of the village but councillors agreed to back the proposal.

Plans for 13 homes on the outskirts of Hereford were also approved.

The proposal by Godfrey Hankins was for the homes to be pitched on land off Church Way in Holmer.

Many residents said that they were against the scheme and were supported by Holmer and Shelwick Parish Council.

Concerns included the increase in traffic that the development would bring, the loss of privacy for existing residents and a potential loss of habitat for wildlife.

Coun Sally Robertson, ward member for Burghill, Holmer and Lyde, said that highway issues has been an ongoing problem in the area and a fire engine recently struggled to get down the road because of the number of parked vehicles.

Nevertheless, the majority of councillors stated that the site was not in Hereford city, but in a rural part of the county, and supported the application.

A proposal for 12 homes on land off Brookmill Close in Colwall was also approved after councillors heard that flooding problems in the village would not be exacerbated by the development.

Colwall Properties Ltd said that half of the homes would be affordable and would even contribute £30,000 to alleviate flooding problems nearby. Two developments in Bartestree were also unanimously approved.

Both proposals were for three homes to be built on land off Longworth Lane.
