A MAIN road near Rotherwas Industrial Estate in Hereford is set to remain closed until at least early next month as engineers try to repair the damage caused by the recent floods.

The problem at the railway bridge on Holme Lacy Road has led to motorists having to get to Rotherwas via the access road.

Herefordshire Council has said that Balfour Beatty crews have cleared a drainage system that was blocked, but a long period of dry weather is still needed to esnure that the road structure can drain.

“The team will also install new gullies in the carriageway to supplement the existing drainage and the repair the retaining wall to the high level footway," said Clive Hall, head of highways and community services at Herefordshire Council.

“We will then reconstruct the carriageway beneath the bridge.

"The road will be reshaped and cambered, maintaining the current headroom, to shed water to the gullies.

“This work will likely run into early March, and although we apologise for any inconvenience, we feel it is crucial that we carry out a complete long term repair now and not temporary repair.

"This is so we leave the carriageway fit for future bad weather events.”
