THE majority of Hereford Times readers feel sympathy towards a county couple who were fined for taking their children on a skiiing holiday during school term time.

Jodi and Andi Ing believe that there should be a change in the school holiday system after they were hit with a £240 penalty fine following the trip earlier this year.

And, it seems that readers share their views.

Nearly 700 votes were cast on a herefordtimes.com ballot asking readers if the Ings should have been fined.

The majority (61%) said that the Ings did the right thing and should not have been fined because the school was notified.

However, nearly a third of votes cast (29%) believed that the right decision was made and parents should be fined for taking their children on holiday during school term.

A further 10% said that, even though the Ings should not have been fined, trips should only be taken during the scheduled school holidays.
