Military to help Herefordshire residents cope with today's flooding
THE military have been called in to help people in the areas of the county worst affected by the floods.
Soldiers will accompany other agencies in visiting people and properties thought to be vulnerable and help them in any way they can, whether by evacuating them from their homes or delivering sandbags.
They will also provide additional 4x4s as well as specialist vehicles that can drive through up to 1.5m of water.
Superintendent Ivan Powell , of West Mercia Police, said he is 'very pleased that Herefordshire will benefit from military assistance'.
He said: "They will not only provide logistical support but help increase the visible presence on the ground, which I know local residents find very reassuring."
