PRESTEIGNE Memorial Hall will be hosting its 25th annual Welsh night on Saturday, March 1, starting at 7pm. This year’s event will be held in honour of the memory of Ruth Rowe, who was president of the hall for many years.
The Welsh night was originally Ruth’s idea and has always proved a popular fundraiser. Her recipe of traditional cawl will be revived by Jean Burgoyne of Country Kitchens.
The Newtown Male Voice Choir will be performing at the event, which will include the unveiling of a plaque in Ruth’s honour. Ruth gave a multitude of service in the kitchen and stewarded at Boysey Rumsey’s discos. She was a well- loved local character, who could be formidable but always fair.
Tickets for the Welsh night cost £8 and can be purchased from Winnie’s Newsagents or from any committee member.
