Ledbury's Big Breakfast is hailed a success
6:03am Wednesday 5th February 2014 in News
THE wind and rain couldn't keep Ledbury residents from enjoying wholesome food at the Ledbury Big Breakfast event on the weekend.
Cafes, pubs and hotels around the town and in surrounding villages were busy serving up a host of tasty treats for people to enjoy, such as locally grown fruit, vegetables and meats as well as granola ice cream fromBromsberrow-based Just Rachel Quality Desserts.
The event, organised by Ledbury Food Group, saw people flock to enjoy the weekend (January 31 and February 1), with calls made for the event to be held every month.
Griff Holliday, secretary of Ledbury Food Group, said the event was 'a great success'.
He said: "Despite the horrible weather, everyone had a really great time enjoying lovely breakfasts and celebrating local food and drink.
"It's hard to tell with events like this how many people came out, but all I can say is that every cafe in Ledbury was full with people enjoying the breakfasts.
"It was a successful event. Some people have said it would be nice to do monthly or in the summer, but the event is about helping local businesses and encouraging the economy in the winter when it is most needed, and it coincides with the national Farmhouse Breakfast Week.."
A competition to create a new sausage run by Trumpet Corner café and Llandinabo Farm Shop attracted over 150 entries. It was won by Kate Clark with her suggestion of a pork, black pudding and leek sausage, which was sold over the weekend.
The Mayor of Ledbury, Councillor Terry Widdows, treated his family to breakfast.
He said: “I am delighted to be supporting the event. It builds on the success of last year’s event and is an ideal opportunity for people to sample good quality food. The local food chain is an integral part of the local economy creating many local jobs throughout the chain and it is important that we continue to support it.”
