A NEW substation is to be built in Hereford to improve power supply to the city's homes.
Work at the Blackfriars Street site will start on Monday, February 17 and is due to be completed by September.
Upgrading of substations near Dormington will also take place as part of an £11million upgrading project set out by Western Power Distribution.
“It ensures that we can provide a high level of service in the long term by improving the infrastructure and security of our electricity network,” said WPD project manager Mick Dunne.
A cable route has been agreed with Herefordshire Council and the Highways Agency to ensure traffic disruption is kept to a minimum, with work at major junctions taking place at off-peak times.
Representatives from WPD will be at Hampton Park United Reform Church in Old Eign Hill, Hereford, from 4.30pm to 8pm on Wednesday to discuss the works.
