A HEREFORD man has set a challenge to see if he should lose his dreadlocks as part of a charity fundraiser.

Andy Rolfe, from Barrs Court Road, has had the locks for five years and last had a hair cut eight years ago.

But, the 24-year-old could lose them for good as part of a competition he has set up to raise money for Cancer Research.

"I've had dreadlocks for five years and people wouldn't recognise me without them," said Andy.

"Two friends of mine have had cancer, so it came to the point that I wanted to do something.

"Anyone who has cancer don't have a choice if they lose their hair, whereas I do."

People have until February 15 to choose whether or not Andy keeps his hair.

Meanwhile, a teaching assistant has shed her long locks to raise money for St Michael's Hospice and the Cancer Research.

Traci Jenkins, who works at Credenhill Primary School, braved the scissors to have most of her cut off at the school on Friday.

Traci said that she has been supporting cancer charities for the last six to seven years after her mother battled against the disease.

"I also lost my nan and a friend to cancer," said Traci.

"The day went really well and we raised £500 at the school.

"In total, I have raised more than £1,000, which is way beyond what I expected."

Traci's hair will be donated to the Little Princess Trust, which provides real-hair wigs for children undergoing cancer treatment.
