MORE than 700 Herefordshire mums have given their views on the county’s maternity services, with nine out of ten scoring the service highly.

The scores are revealed in a Friends and Family Test (FFT) targeting Wye Valley NHS Trust (WVT) as part of a government initiative to drive up standards in hospitals across the country.

Maternity services scores are the latest to be made available to the public.

For the last three months pregnant women and mothers receiving services from hospital and community midwives in the county have been asked their views on three different areas: antenatal care, birth and care on the postnatal ward and postnatal community care.

More than 90 per cent of women have scored the service highly saying that they would be “extremely likely” or” likely” to recommend the service to their friends and family.

Julie Taylor, Maternity Ward and Women’s Health Manager at Wye Valley NHS Trust, said: “We are extremely pleased with the Friends and Family Test feedback so far, which reflects the aim of our midwifery and health visiting team to provide women with information, advice and support during their pregnancy, birth, and when they return home after giving birth in hospital, and right up until their child is five years old”.

Helen Price, Lead Midwife at Wye Valley NHS Trust, said: “We want to encourage women in Herefordshire to give their feedback on our services and thank those who have already taken part, which has enabled us to implement further improvements to the quality of care we provide”.
