A FORMER primary school could be converted into a nursing home.
David Kingham and Care Consultants Ltd have set out their proposal for the Staunton on Wye Endowed Primary School, which will include a 70-bedroom home, as well as 14 new close-care units for the elderly.
Mr Kingham, who currently runs the nearby Weir Nursing Home in Swainshill, said that there is a strong and growing demand for additional care facilities.
"In terms of the principle of the development proposed and land use, the conversion of the existing building for care provision is acceptable and, indeed, falls within the same class as the former school use," the planning statement reads.
"In terms of the new build element of the scheme, this is also acceptable in principle, subject to demonstrating that the scheme satisfies the requirements of the various policies."
The application includes parking spaces for 40 cars.
