FITNESS fans from all over Herefordshire are in line for some serious upgrades in their facilities, after Halo this week announced the extent of its £9m overhaul.

Subject to final approval in February, five major centres will be refurbished with new and improved facilities, from children’s soft play areas to spas.

Arguably the biggest facelift will be at Halo’s largest location, Hereford Leisure Centre.

As well as getting a new, bigger gym, larger exercise studio and a ‘Toning Suite’, the Leisure Centre will become a permanent regional gymnastics centre.

It will also see a refurbishment to its squash courts as well as its cafe and changing rooms.

Both Hereford and Leominster Leisure Centres will also create ‘JumpINGym’s – indoor soft play areas for kids.

The Leominster location will also have a new bespoke group exercise studio, a new gym with around 30 percent more equipment and refurbished changing rooms.

And, perhaps most exciting of all, it will be home to a new spa area, with a thermal pool, sauna, ‘ice room’ and treatment room.

Ross-on-Wye and Ledbury swimming pools – where work is expected to start by April – will also have new spa facilities, with Ledbury getting a treatment room and a sauna and Ross getting a sauna and a stream room.

Both will also have an extension built to house a larger gym, as well as getting new changing facilities, a group exercise studio and refurbished pool area.

Hereford Leisure Pool, which was given a major facelift in 2012, will also benefit from a patio seating area for its cafe and a moveable floor to make the diving pool more flexible to hold swimming lessons.

The funding for this major project is coming from a borrowing programme and paid back through rent by Halo.
