A Hereford woman has been saluted for her "fantastic" lifesaving skills.

Meryl Kemp started chest compressions on a man she saw collapse in Aylestone Park.

After several rounds of compressions the man came round from cardiac arrest just before an ambulance arrived.

Today (Wed) both the British Heart Foundation and Herefordshire Heartstart confirmed that they had presented Special Achievement Certificates to Meryl.

Meryl said the man was "blue and making a strange noise" when she reached him, nor could she see or feel any signs of breathing.

It took several rounds of compressions to bring the man round with an ambulance on the way.

Dr John Ballance, Medical Director and Chairman of Herefordshire Heartstart said Meryl's "fantastic"  achievement was made possible through the teaching of Heartstart.

"The more people we can train, the more lives will be saved," he said.

Heartstart courses are open to anyone age 10 upwards in teaching how to perform CPR, how to deal with choking, loss of consciousness, serious bleeding and how to recognise the warning signs of a heart attack.
