Cuts to Herefordshire bus services
Lifeline rural bus services could be cut short to save Herefordshire Council £1m.
Next week, the council’s cabinet will be asked to back £1m worth of cuts to current passenger transport studies.
The council already concedes that the withdrawal of some services is “likely to be necessary” to deliver the full savings requirement, with evening and Sunday services facing the most immediate threat.
Value for money, expressed as the subsidy per passenger, will be a key factor in determining the survival of a service, with much expected of community transport schemes to keep unviable routes running.
