HEREFORD Sixth Form’s principal has been honoured with a Fellowship by the University of Worcester.

Following Dr Jonathan Godfrey's recognition in last year’s honours list, the university's vice chancellor, David Green, said the Fellowship is awarded to highly distinguished individuals who have made a major contribution to education.

Dr Godfrey OBE said: “It was an honour to receive this award which I accept on behalf of all at the college.

“It is a privilege to be recognised by the University of Worcester who are growing in numbers and academic reputation year on year.”

The college’s principal since 1997, Dr Godfrey has guided the Sixth Form to an ‘outstanding’ grade from OFSTED and Beacon Status in 2006.

As a leading educationalist he also chairs the Sixth Form Colleges Association, and recently appeared as an expert witness before the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament to answer questions on post-16 education.

An Oxford graduate who worked in the pharmaceutical industry before returning to study for a PGCE, Dr Godfrey’s contributions to education led to him being awarded an OBE in the New Year’s honours list twelve months ago.

While outside of his specialist area, he has a keen interest in music and natural history.

Professor David Green, said: “Under Dr Godfrey’s leadership, Hereford Sixth Form College is graded Outstanding by OFSTED and the College was named as one of the best places to work in the public sector.

“I am delighted to award the University Fellowship to him."

Dr Godfrey is one of just five people to have received the honour from the University of Worcester.
