THE Environment Agency has issued flood warnings for the River Wye after heavy rain battered the county yesterday.

The four warnings are from Hereford to Ross-on-Wye, Hereford to Hay-on-Wye and for the river in Hereford, both north and south of the city.

Dave Throup, spokesman for the Environment Agency, said that the river is currently peaking in Bredwardine and is expected to peak elsewhere in the county later today.

However, the Environment Agency has said that it has no plans to deploy the flood barriers in Hereford.

The rain yesterday caused severe disruption on the trains, with services from Newport to Hereford having to be cancelled.

Flooding at Ledbury also saw services affected from Great Malvern to Hereford.

On the roads, the A438 is reportedly closed at Letton, as is Watery Lane in Yarkhill, while Bullingham Lane in Hereford sustained a lot of flood water.

Readers have also said that the Leominster to Presteigne road is treacherous at the Kinsham junction, as is the A4110 near Kingsland.

The Hampton Bishop road is also causing problems, but is passable with care.

However, a car has reportedly been left stranded in a ditch.

Firefighters had to rescue a woman from a car that got stuck in flooded water near Pontrilas shortly before 12.20pm, while a crew also attended a road traffic collision and flooded roadway in West Street, Pembridge, just after 4.20am.
