THE porch of a pub near Ledbury was completely destroyed after a car crash on Boxing Day.

Liza McBain, the manager of The Royal Oak in Much Marcle, was walking her dogs in the field next to the pub when the car hit the front porch at 9.30am.

Liza, who has been the pub's manager for five years, said that when she heard the crash she thought 'a beer delivery had arrived and had dropped all of its barrels on the floor'.

She said: "There were only a few chefs in the pub at that time and luckily everyone was okay although the driver of the car was slightly injured. She is okay now though, she was a bit shaken up but she came back to see us in the afternoon. She is a very, very lucky girl.

"There was black ice on the road and it’s easy to lose control. I don't think anyone expected the ice on the roads because it didn't look white outside at all."

Liza said that this is the second time in just over a year that the porch has been damaged, with the first incident happening in November 2012 when an old oak tree fell.

She said: "The builders have already taken the remains of the porch away as it had to be completely torn down. Adam Cale's builders were fantastic - they came out straight away.

"We had only just had the porch repaired but we will have it rebuilt again as we obviously need it - if it had not been there then the car and the tree would have hit the pub."

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service were called to the incident.

They made the vehicle safe and gritted the roads.
