Bin collections over the Christmas period

Hereford Times: Bin collections over the Christmas period Bin collections over the Christmas period

BIN collections due on the forthcoming bank holidays will take place at different times.

Refuse and recycling due to be collected on December 25 will be collected on December 28 while those expecting to put out bins and bags on Boxing Day will see workers call by for refuse on January 2 and recycling on January 9.

Collections due on January 1 for refuse and recycling will be collected on January 4.

Household recycling centres are open as normal over the Christmas period but closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.

Trade customers whose collections fall on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day will receive letters.

I cannot believe how lazy the public sector is.
Some people will be working on christmas day and boxing day, but not the council's bin collection staff, oh no....not with their huge generous holiday entitlement.

I pay my council tax every day of the year however it seems the council thinks this doesn't apply to them.

Perhaps they'd benefit from a bit of competition.
Anyone want bin collecting over xmas? Good rates offered and no shirking my responsibilities on religous holidays.
Caan't do boxing day though, got to watch Hereford get a tonking from Kidderminster.

The Boxing Day (Thursday) wheelie bin recycling collection has not been rearranged because it was due again on the 9th January anyway. It has simply been binned. The result is that people who last had their wheelie bin emptied on the 12th December won't get it emptied again for nearly a month. This is a complete dereliction of duty and obviously completely unacceptable. Made even more so by the fact that the Christmas period naturally generates more waste so people will have far more than an average month's worth of waste anyway.

I'm one of the people that's going to be effected by this because of our bin collections being on a Wednesday.
Now, me and my partner have already planned to take our bags to another part of the area where there collections are on Fridays
I don't expect people (apart from emergency services) to work Christmas day, boxing day or even new years day and when 'national' holidays fall on days like this then we all need to just think ahead!!! And even help your neighbours to do the same

I love the hard working bin men as much as the next man. I just don't want the streets awash with rubbish and litter just because they want a day off....

no reason why Bin men should have to work on bank holidays what should happen is the company that has the contract Focsa (or however it is spelt)should be made to pay extra staff to catch up with the refuse collection.Mizza you said I cannot believe how lazy the public sector is.

Why doesn't Santa pick up the rubbish on his way around, when he drops off the presents he will have room for the rubbish. It seems logical to me what do you think?

I worked out that as our day is a Thursday we won't get our recycling picked up for 4 weeks so as my bin is already nearly overflowing I did the sensible thing and phoned the council I now have white recycling bags being sent through the post so I can put my additional recycling in them and store them until the day it will be collected, a bit of forward planning never hurt anyone. Everyone deserves time off and a bit of thinking from others will sort out alternatives. I didn't agree with the council telling me to take my rubbish to the Recycling centre but having the bags instead is a handy alternative.

Most comments ludicrous you demand that bins are emptied all over Christmas, workers have been exploited for years to work on occasion like this. Obviously you have no family life and have no interest in others having a Christmas together, you are miserable specimens who lead a sad life and don't give a monkeys about anyone.
Have a nice existence.

Look Binmen have families and deserve a bit of time off, but at Christmas? Really?
When there's more rubbish generated than at any other time of year?

Typical public sector attitude.
My first thought as that they could do extra collections on Christmas day and boxing day and charge a fee for them.
Yes folks, a nice Christmas bonus for the hardworking binmen.
Everyone's a winner, except those who don't want to work on Public Holidays I suppose.

You can all dump your rubbish on my driveway.
So long as it is correctly bagged up for collection by the hardworking binmen and you have properly sorted out your recycling you're all welcome.
I do have a long drive silentbull, all I ask is that there's enough space for me to get out so as I can purchase the special XMAS edition of the Hereford Times from my local news vendor.

The Cut Out and Keep life size picture of Paul Rogers will be going up on the wall next to the Life size pictures of Paul Hollywood and that bloke off of Cash in the Attic.
It will make a very fitting addition to my indoor air rifle range.
Only Joking Paul... (not that he reads any of this. He'll probably be in the Starting Gate wearing his Santa Hat and on his fifth Martini and Lemonade by now.)

Mizza - the public sector doesn't collect the bins (and the private sector clearly doesn't choose to over Christmas). Lazy to contract the service out perhaps but no doubt it was cheaper at the time.

Bring your waste over here - Monday collections - and usually not that early so you can get a lie in. Though it's probably closer just to go to the tip.

Otherwise maybe we could get the swarms of delivery vans to pick up the packaging they bring - would save a load of work for the binmen and they've already driving all over the county - send it all back to Amazon and they can deal with it - since they don't pay much tax perhaps they can do that as a favour instead?

Shall we organise a sponsored wheelie bin push when the tip re-opens after Christmas? Meet in Outfall Works Road and those in Tupsley can use the new cycle and foot bridge. The only others there are leisure walkers and cyclist ... Not seen a single toff with brief case, umbrella and bowler hat walking to work in Rotherwas!
