Buy-out at Hereford nightclub Fusion

Hereford Times: New Fusion manager Ross Tyler outside the Commercial Road venue. New Fusion manager Ross Tyler outside the Commercial Road venue.

ONE of Hereford's biggest nightclubs is set for a major shake-up - with boxing, comedy and school proms set to mix it on the dance floor.

Steve Harrison, who already owns six venues in the city, now has his hands on Fusion after settling on an undisclosed fee for the Commercial Road club last week.

The aim, Steve says, is to attract an older crowd who, for whatever reason, do not go out in Hereford as much as they used to.

The venue will remain a nightclub on Saturday nights, but bespoke events will be run on other nights of the week.

A silent disco, in which people dance to music they are listening to on headphones, will be held next Thursday, while the equivalent will be available for under 18's to enjoy the following Monday.

A "suits and posh frocks" charity night in aid of St Michael's Hospice, which includes a casino and live entertainment, will be held on January 17, while a boxing night, organised by Ledbury Amateur Boxing Club, will entertain revellers on February 14.

Club nights include a Naughty but Nice Christmas party on December 21 and Lisa Lashes DJ set on New Year's Eve.

"The logic is to do more in Hereford than just being a nightclub, so we will be putting on specific events," said Steve.

"We are trying to find something for people to do and have a reason to go out, rather than just drink.

"We are planning on doing school proms, which will include a sit down meal, comedy nights, cage fights and wrestling.

"I think it is the best venue in Hereford, because it's modern and apparently has the biggest LED dance floor in the country."

The venue will be managed by Ross Tyler, who is also the assistant manager of the Kerry.

A strict dress code of no trainers, tracksuits or hoodies will be in operation, while new door staff have been employed.

Ross claims the nightlife scene in Hereford has become a bit stale and he is looking forward to managing Fusion.

"We are trying to make Hereford a better place to be for everyone," he said.

Sounded promising until the dated dress code nonsense was mentioned. Encouraging "the older crowd" to participate in the mediocre nightlife Hereford has to offer is hard enough without dictating what must be worn on a night out.

People do not go out in Hereford for many reasons, not being able to buy hot food after 1.30am is one off them!

Thanks for your mainly positive comments, the dress code is simply make an effort, its an occasion! Hot food is available in Fusion til 3.30am and surely any entertainment in Commercial Road is going to be a bonus? Its a reason to go out.

This sounds like a really good idea! The most promising thing is the new door staff as I know that would always put my social group of going to fusion previously - the staff had earned themselves a bit of a reputation in Hereford for being very aggressive and picking who was allowed in based on personal issues with people. Hope it works for the new owner as we need a decent nightclub in Hereford.

No. I'm struggling with this one!

Seriously though, Good Luck with all your efforts in trying to bring something new to Hereford, in all honesty, the cage fighting night isn't really for me, but you can't please everyone!!

I have found having a cousin as the wife makes things easier at Christmas. Less Presents to buy etc etc
I can see why many religious cultures favour this method of pairing off. Sometimes against the will of the participants too.
