WHEN a county church found itself lacking a vital centrepiece for its Christmas celebrations, it turned to teenagers for help.
John Masefield High School students rose to the challenge of creating a Christingle Orange for the Christmas Eve celebrations at Ledbury's Michael's and All Angels Church.
The Year 10 group, who study GSCE resistant materials and GSCE art, created a one metre high Christingle orange for use in the service.
Mark Stevenson, the faculty leader for technology and enterprise, who helped the students with their creation along with technician Simon McDonald, said they were happy to help.
He said: "We were delighted that our students were able to help members of the local community and they rose to the challenge splendidly.
"They voluntarily gave up breaks and lunchtimes to ensure the project was completed on time and thoroughly enjoyed working collaboratively.
"They are rightly proud of their efforts and are overjoyed that the Christingle Orange will be used for many years to come."
A Christingle is a symbolic object used in the advent services of many Christian denominations.
The orange represents the world, a red ribbon around it represents the blood of Christ, dried fruits represent the fruits of the earth and the four seasons, and a lit candle is used to represent Jesus.
