AN elderly woman had money stolen during a distraction burglary in Kington.

The woman, who is in her 80's, was at her home in Markwick Close when she answered the door to a man who said she had won a hamper.

He asked for her name and address, so went inside to get some paper and a pen.

The man followed her into the house and put the gift on a side cabinet.

He then said that the hamper was not for her and ran out of the house.

Two days later, the woman realised that a large amount of cash which she had been saving for Christmas had been stolen from her bedroom.

The suspect is described as white, in his 50s, with grey receding hair and was wearing a dark overcoat.
