THE FIRE Brigades Union is planning strike action on Wednesday between 10am and 2pm.

The FBU, the UK’s largest union for firefighters, will strike for the fourth time in recent weeks over proposed changes to their pension conditions.

Mark Preece, Area Commander for Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, is urging people to check their smoke alarms and take extra care cooking and disposing of cigarettes.

He said: “During the firefighter strikes, we want people to be clear about what to do in the event of a fire.

“The most important point they need to know is that they will still get an emergency response and they should not be tempted to tackle fires themselves.

“We want to encourage the public in the event of a fire to Get Out, Stay Out and Call 999.

“The safest option is to evacuate, call for help and let specially trained personnel from the fire service and other emergency services take charge rather than attempting to tackle the fire yourself.”
