CONFUSION still surrounds the future of public lavatories in the county’s market towns.

Conveniences found in Burgess Street and the Grange in Leominster, the Crofts, in Ross-on-Wye, and Church Street in Bromyard could join the services located in Ledbury’s Church Lane in closing on November 1.

However, a possible lifeline has come in the form of town councils.

Herefordshire Council is hopeful that the smaller councils could take on the provision of the threatened lavatories.

Paul Nicholas, directorate change manager at Herefordshire Council, confirmed that meetings with Leominster and Ledbury Town Councils are expected to be held shortly.

The Hereford Times reported last week that public lavatories in Symonds Yat East, Kerne Bridge, Colwall and St Martins, Hereford, will close on November 1.
