Arabian racing set for photo finish in Hereford

HEREFORD Racecourse will host its final Arabian race of the season this Saturday, rounding out a successful return for competitive racing to the track.
The card will be Hereford’s sixth of the season, and organisers are considering the comeback a success both on and off the turf.
“We’ve had some really exciting racing,” said Amanda Smith, the racing manager for the Arabian Racing Organisation (ARO).
“And I’ve been pleased with gate; it’s been a bit up and down but we had over 500 for Ladies Day in August.
“It’s been really good – it was exciting just just getting racing back on in Hereford.”
The ARO will now wait for the jump racing fixtures to be released, and on a decision from track operators Arena Racing Company, to see whether they will be returning next year.
An announcement is expected in the new year.
This year the track hosted more full Arabian race cards than anywhere else in the country.
However the sport's popularity is growing, and single races have been included at increasingly high profile thoroughbred events.
“It’s still an emerging sport, but we had a race in Doncaster this year – for ARO that was a real highlight for the season.”
