Coningsby family remembered in a weekend of events at Hampton Court Castle
5:00am Friday 27th September 2013 in News
ON Saturday and Sunday, there will be a weekend of events at Hampton Court Castle centred on an exhibition of Coningsby family documents and pictures by the Herefordshire Records Office.
In recognition of the 18th century Thomas Lord Coningsby’s notorious feuds with neighbours and tenants, there will be games on the lawn for visitors to come and challenge staff members and their white rabbit mascot, chosen for having been part of the Coningsby coat of arms, to quoits, skittles and hurling the gauntlet.
There will also be a white rabbit trail and other activities for children, Elizabethan dancing, exhibits from Coningsby Hospital and a talk by historian Cathy Beale on the development of Hampton Court gardens under the Coningsbys.
Tickets for the talk on Saturday evening are available from the Archives Department: 01432 260750.
The event runs 10.30am to 5pm and normal admission prices apply.
