Charity walker Linda Bishop steps up for hero's reward
A WOMAN who walked almost 200 miles to raise thousands of pounds for charity is the latest recipient of a Hereford Times award.
Linda Bishop completed 17 treks around the Herefordshire border over three weeks in May this year as part of her Beating Boundaries Challenge.
Thanks to her efforts £10,000 was raised for St Michael’s Hospice.
Linda was first referred to St Michael’s day hospice in 2011 with recurring parotid tumours with which she had been suffering since her early 30s.
But she worked her way back to health with help from the hospice’s complementary therapies team.
Now, the 65-year-old from Clehonger is the latest recipient of a Hereford Times/Great British Florist Herefordshire Hero award, having been nominated by her friend Jean Pugh.
Jean said: “When we first heard of Linda’s fund-raising plans we thought she wouldn’t be able to do it, but she did. To think what Linda has overcome is incredible.”
Linda said the award – a beautiful bouquet of flowers – was perfect as she has a great interest in botany.
“Before training I was so ill I could barely walk,” she said.
“I couldn’t have done it without the support of friends and organisations who sponsored me, so I want to say thank you to them all.”
To donate call Linda on 01432 85100 or visit her web link at justgiving.com/LindaBishop à Every month, the Hereford Times and the Great British Florist will join forces to celebrate someone who deserves recognition.
