TESCO has formally submitted plans to build a multi-million pound supermarket in Ross-on-Wye.
The proposed 40,000 square-foot store off Overross Street includes a 260 space cark park and a four-pump petrol station with the promise of around 250 jobs.
The application follows four months of public consultation between Tesco and local councillors, as well as the Association of Ross Traders, Ross Civic Society and Ross and Monmouth Sea Cadets.
A two-day public exhibition of the plans also took place at the Larruperz Centre in May, which resulted in 61 per cent of attendees saying they were in favour of the supermarket coming to the town.
“We have been very pleased with the constructive meetings held with groups and organisations in the town,” said Tesco corporate affairs manager Simon Petar, Tesco Corporate Affairs Manager.
"“Our public exhibition attracted about 500 visitors and, based on the feedback received, we know that a strong majority of residents welcome our plans for a new supermarket.”
The plans also include new pedestrian and cycle routes to establish improved links with the town centre.
