THE Moclair Muckers and their pink wheelbarrow will be among the hundreds of runners taking part in today's Race for Life.

Giving the other participants an extra reason to up their pace, the 16 “country girls” will be blasting The Wurzels from speakers in the wheelbarrow the whole way around Hereford Racecourse.

Organisers behind the 5km fun run are hoping to top last year’s record of 2,100 entrants – with 1,500 ladies already signed up for this year’s event in support of Cancer Research UK.

Like many of those running, for Moclair sisters Michelle and Sarah the race is deeply personal with their mother Lorraine currently undergoing cancer treatment.

And alongside the rest of the Muckers, they are proof you are never too young, or too old, to get involved – with MM members aged from one to 65.

Liz Dolloway, one of the Muckers, said: “We have all had cancer touch our lives and wanted to do something to support Lorraine and to raise money to help Cancer Research UK continue its fantastic work.”

Explaining where the team name came from, Liz added: “We are all country folk, who live in or around Leominster, and seem to spend a lot of time mucking out horses, dogs or children, so the Mucker bit seemed to come naturally.”

Team members have already got themselves sponsored by a number of local businesses – including £20 for the wheelbarrow – which will all go towards an anticipated total target for Hereford of £115, 000.
