ANYONE exercising at the Point 4 in Hereford later this month could be witnessing the making of the next Rebecca Adlington or Michael Phelps.
A group of babies – the youngest a mere 11 weeks old – will take to the water on June 17 for an hour-long sponsored swim to raise money for Tommy’s, a charity funding medical research into pregnancy problems such as miscarriage.
Denise Stevenson, from Hereford, who is organising the event in the Point 4 hydrotherapy pool, said she is so proud of all the babies taking part, including her son Ollie.
She said: “It started with me just taking Ollie to swim, and I was a bit nervous to start him as he used to not like having baths.
“But he just took to the water instantly and absolutely loved it.
“We decided to fund-raise for Tommy’s as it is tragic for anyone to go through a miscarriage or stillbirth, and everyone unfortunately knows someone who has been through it, so it seemed like a good idea.
“They are doing so well – Ollie alone has raised £90, so we should have a good amount at the end of it.”
Bonnie Cooke, whose eight-month-old son Louis will join in with the swim said she knows “the babies will do fine on the day”.
“They’re all very comfortable in the water so I know they will do brilliantly.”
