GARY Bowyer is back in charge of Blackburn Rovers after Michael Appleton was sacked this morning.

Bowyer, who made 14 appearances for Hereford United in the 1989/90 season under his father Ian after starring for Westfields, returns to the hotseat at Ewood Park in a caretaker capacity for the second time this season.

His previous tenure saw him win three and draw one of his four matches after former manager Henning Berg was relieved of his duties in December.

Blackburn, who lost to Millwall last week in a FA Cup Quarter-Final replay, are currently 18th in the Championshop table - four points above the drop zone.

Appleton was only in charge at Ewood Park for 67 days and is the third boss to leave the club this season, following the departures of Berg and Steve Kean.
