GOLDEN boy Alex Griffiths will find out if he has scooped the Sky Sports Living for Sport award – while hanging out with Jess Ennis, Darren Campbell and GB hockey’s Alex Danson at the star-studded presentation in London today.

The Earl Mortimer College student is representing the West Midlands, going up against 11 other regional champs for the Student of the Year award – which celebrates young people who have used sport to raise up all areas of their lives.

And some of the the big-name UK athletes involved in mentoring hopefuls have hit Twitter this morning:

Already used to rubbing shoulders with the sporting elite – Alex put ex-Springbok rugby international Thinus Delport through his paces at a coaching session at EMC earlier this year – he took to Twitter himself saying he is “so excited” for the awards.

PE teacher Paul Bescoby praised Alex’s leadership and noted how the project got Alex “more actively involved in college life, regularly helping out at college events”.

He said: “Alex has grown into a well rounded individual.”
