Herefordshire dogs have their day at Crufts

A TEENAGER’S Tibetan terrier finished ahead of the pack in a big year for Herefordshire dogs at Crufts.

John Kyrle pupil Katie Stewart, 16, scooped the Young Kennel Club 12-16 Handling Trophy as her terrific terrier Robeson was named top dog in the yoy and utility class.

Incredibly Robeson only got the nod at the last minute after illness counted out another of the Orcop teenager’s dogs.

“I was supposed to be showing another Tibetan terrier but it was too ill,” she said.

“I had a quick practice with Robeson in the morning and he was brilliant.

“We are really pleased to have won. It feels amazing.”

Meanwhile, honorary Hereford Cathedral School pets Dodger and Romo showed that you can teach old dogs new tricks – picking up third in the veteran terrier class and fourth in the post-graduate gundog class respectively at the nation’s biggest pedigree dog show at the Narional Exhibition Centre near Birmingham.

Dodger, owned by Cathedral Juniors teacher Nicola Jeynes, and Romo, owned by the school’s development director Claire Morgan-Jones, might have missed out on top honours but they both picked up major style points outside of the ring with their personalised Cathedral School uniforms.

And Dodger, a Manchester terrier, can hold his head high after losing out to two champions for his breed.
