Flat fire in Bromyard - rabbit rescued

A RABBIT was rescued from a flat fire in Bromyard last night.

Three fire engines were called to Cruxwell Street at 6.45pm.

The fire was in the living room of the second floor flat and firefighters in breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish the flames.

There were no people inside the property at the time, but crews did rescue a rabbit called Smudge, who was unharmed.

The fire was believed to have caused by wood that was stacked against a wood burning stove.

• Meanwhile, firefighters tackled a chimney fire in Leintwardine.

A crew was called to Rosemary shortly before 1pm yesterday and used a hose reel, ladders and working at height gear.

I am glad to see that HT are using the price increase to go towards such worthy news stories

Sometimes, while I am working away, running the mincer to dispose of the bodies what I have recently cut up and getting the pastry cases all ready to accept the resultant mince I wonder about how fulfilling my life could have been had I decided to be a journalist.

Don't misunderstand, I am so pleased Smudge was saved.

I want to know if he suffered from smoke inhalation and how the Fire Bobbies knew his name.
Did he tell them?

Perhaps we could have a picture of Smudge, or even just a library Rabbit picture, for those of us who love nothing better than, while we're having a cup of tea and a fag in between bouts of mopping up the blood, to gaze upon a nice picture of bunny rabbits.

Looks like the wood burning stove did its job to perfection.
I know... I have a load of dry firewood...
Now... Where to store it?
Ooh, yes by the wood burner! Time and motion studies show me that the closer i store it to where it will be used will save me seconds over my day. I'll have time then, to call the Fire brigade when it all goes wrong!

Wood stacked against a woodburner?? No way, I heard he was having a crafty fag, whilst watching a repeat of country file - rabbits love John Craven - after a large whiskey, he nodded off. The rest,as thay say,is history.....

Wonderful idea silentbull! Perhaps, the title role of the bunny could be played by Rabbit de Niro?

I know the welfare state is very generous these days, but giving a flat to an unmarried rabbit seems misplaced.

Be careful, dipppyhippy! That's my best joke! The rest are far worse - yes, that's hard to believe I know!
I much prefer richybeaver's post - great, out of the box thinking. Loved that one.

How could the rabbit buy fags. Unless he could prove he was 16?

I have had an incident whereby her indoors stacked wood against a woodburner.
Smoke alarm saved our lives on that occasion.

I would never be without a smoke alarm now. Not with a burd with such a cavalier approach to kindling management

What you need Mizza, is a robust risk assessment, which should cover all eventualities!! Needless to say, I have a whole file of risk assessments in my house which cover many day to day tasks ,that potentially could put life and limb at risk. e.g. Putting out the rubbish. This also requires both people to have completed a manual handling course - obviously two people are required to reduce the risk of injury,as stated in said risk assessment!

Totally agree about smoke alarm though - you'd be a fool not to have one!

Dippy, I am glad you take these things seriously.
If I introduced risk assessments in my house we'd hurt our backs stacking them up.

I would just like to say one thing though to the resplendent HT.
Please give us Bunny Pics !!
I pay my £2.79 for a copy and I a lovely picture of fluffy bunny's would make me feel so much better.
Do it for the children HT. Bunny Pics, come on !!

Smudge is hopping mad about all this publicity.

In the interim, Smudge met a girl and now has 16 offspring.

Rehousing to a 4 bed detached seems the most attractive option.

The moral of the story is: always go for central heating.

The 16 offspring have now followed their role model mother and decided that its easier to draw Benefit than work - so it's goes on and on .....!

Just had a thought: maybe Smudge was doing his bit to welcome the new Pope.

Lots of white smoke, lots of babies.

This is a joke news paper, Walt disneys dying wish...

What's next:

Stop the press I have just seen three dengu's a hamster and a gerbil mixing diesel and fertiliser... They should not have moved the rabbits to the front of the shop at pets at home.

It's just just an honour to witness world class journalist ability and clearly having a no-inder to name smudge.....
