Bromyard Gala to go ahead this year
8:30am Tuesday 12th March 2013 in News
The Bromyard Gala is one of the county's biggest events
BROMYARD Gala will go ahead this year despite last year’s cancellation that cost organisers thousands of pounds.
However, bosses have this week announced that there is only enough funding available to keep the Gala running for 2013 and some fear that this year could be the last.
The bad weather brought about only the second cancellation in the event’s 46-year history – which left backers £50,000 out of pocket.
Gala chairman Liz Huffer said she is looking forward to a better year but warned there was a lot of work left to do.
“Last year was disappointing and disastrous. We got everything ready and made all sorts of extra plans to keep the gala going but the weather beat us in the end as it did many people,” she added.
“However, we are very optimistic that this year will be better. We do need to raise a lot of money but we are working hard to do so.
Fund-raising events have been organised, such as a performance by Hereford Police Male Choir at the Queen Elizabeth Humanities College on March 23.
This year’s gala takes place on July 6 and 7 on the Birchyfields site.
